I predict the following teams to finish in last place.
AL West: Seattle (I predict they’ll have a year like they had a couple of years ago where their old guys collectively digress.)
AL Central: KC
AL East: Baltimore
NL West: San Francisco
NL Central: Pittsburgh (Washington is in the East, Marcus.)
NL East: Florida Marlins

AL WEST: Texas and Oakland (tied)
AL CENTRAL: Minnesota
AL EAST: Baltimore
NL WEST: San Francisco
NL CENTRAL: Pittsburgh
NL EAST: Washington

Really Espo??? You think Minn is going to be worse than KC? What are you basing this on?

woops!
nl central: pittsburgh
nl east: washington(florida will be close)
how could you possibly pick the m’s to finish last in the al west, doug. ha! oakland will be terrible next year. teams with young, one-dimensional players, lots of injury questions, and no pitching don’t do very well.

I still think that the Rangers will finish last in the AL West, but I gotta agree with Marcus that it will certainly not be the Mariners. I think Felix is going to have a great year, Bedard is great, the bullpen is great, and the hitting is good enough. They could give the Angels a run for their money.
Here’s why the A’s are better than the Rangers:
A’s starting pitching will be pretty good if Haren can stay healthy, Blanton is solid (if he doesn’t get traded) and Duchscherer (or one other SP) is bound to step up. If he can transition from RP to SP smoothly we could be looking at 14-10, 4.00 ERA, 175 K. A couple of the young A’s hitters will be good at the plate (Barton, Cust, Gonzalez?), and Chavez, Crosby and Ellis will all have better years than last year. Plus, the bullpen is pretty damn solid.
The Rangers took a step in the right direction with Hamilton, but we already knew they could hit. They have some of the worst pitching in baseball. They will lose 90 games with final scores of 10-8 or 12-9 or something like that.
Final ‘08 AL West:
Team GB
1.Angels –
2.Mariners 7
3. A’s 15
4.Rangers 24
¡Viva crazy prediction man!

I meant Harden, not Haren.

Obviously I’m being obstinate in picking the Mariners to finish last. After all, they had the highest salary in the AL West last year, and spent the most amount of money per Win. So I’m guessing they’ll continue that pattern and spend just enough to NOT contend again this year. But yes, they will finish above the A’s.
Though, like Krappah, I do predict the A’s will surprise people this year with a right around .500 finish and a good foundation for contention in 2009.
I’m thinking of getting a vintage A’s symbol (the old school elephant with bat from the Philadelphia days) tattooed on my calf. Anyone wanna make a bet? If the A’s finish above the Mariners this year, you gotta get an A’s tattoo, too?
