Ok, how about…5 best and worst teams in terms of fantasy player potential

Worst Fantasy Potential: Worst.)Pitt – Bay and Capps are decent but after that…ugh…um…I’m thinking…Sanchez?2.) KC – Only some distant prospect potential. Teahan, Butler, Grienke, Gordon3.) A’s – Street, C.Gonzalez, Barton…maybe Harden? After that it’s a fantasy dead zone.4.) Wash – Zimmerman a must. After that maybe only N.Johnson, Dukes and Milledge? Pretty weak.5.)Rangers - Young, Blalock and Kinsler are middle to late round guys. After that…maybe Hamilton. Best Fantasy Potential: Best.) Detroit –  Granderson, Maggs, Cabrera, Sheffield, Renteria, Polanco, Guillen, Pudge, Verlander…heck, even Pudge.2.)Mets – Top Tier: Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Johan…all 1-3 round picks. Second Tier: Wagner, Pedro, Maine, Delgado.3.)Phillies –  Gotta put them here based entirely on Rollins, Utley and Howard. That’s a heck of a trio. Also, Hamels, Myers, Victorino, and maybe Lidge.4.) Yankees – A.Rod is still the best fantasy player. Closely following are Jeter, Cano, Abreu, Rivera, Joba. Next tier would be: Wang and Posada (sounds like a 70’s soft rock duo)5.)Red Sox –  Top tier: Ortiz, Ramirez, Beckett, Papelbon. Second tier: Dice-K, Ellsbury…and Buchholz is a good prospect.

  • WORST?!

How about the Orioles… Markakis, Roberts… then?… Luke Scott? … Luis Hernandez?

Or the Giants… Many of their pitchers would be solid picks, but that offense? … as the BP says, Lincecum could be the best pitcher in the NL and go 12-10!

    BEST!

The Brewers! … Fielder, Braun, Hart, Hardy, Weeks, Sheets, Gallardo (all players with upside), even Gagne should have a perfectly hollow 30+ save season.

… oh, but the best team in terms of fantasy potential… as always, !Yo La Tengo!… woo-yeah!!

  • I considered both Baltimore and SF for the worst list, but I am a big fan of Markakis and Roberts. Those 2 guys alone make them #6 on my worst list. This is, however, merely my opinion. I guess Young, Kinsler and Blalock could be better than Markakis and Roberts, so perhaps the Orioles could be the #5 team. They are certainly better than the 4 worst teams though.

Giants have good enough pitching prospects to keep them out of the bottom 5, but just barely.

Other weak fantasy teams: Twins and Reds

In terms of the Brewers being one of the top 5 teams….I’m kind of torn there. The guys you listed will certainly be on fantasy teams, but the only real super studs on that list are Braun, Fielder and maybe Gallardo. Hart could maybe be a stud, but the other guys are late round picks.

I still gotta give the Red Sox the #5 slot….but again just my opinion. What does everyone else think?

  • Worst: After Lincecum and Cain, by beloved Giants are terrible. TERRIBLE!

Honorable Mention: Pirates, Orioles, Rangers, Twins and Nats.

Best: Tigers have murderers row, plus a solid pitching staff and passable bullpen. I might even draft Jim Leyland. They’re very good.

Honorable Mention: Mets, Red Sox, Yankees, and any other team that is run like an actual fantasy team.

    Honorable Honorable Mention:
The RAYS! Crawford, Upton, Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Longoria, Pena, even the minor leaguers. It’s a good time to be a fantasy devil rays fan.
