In the spring of 2002 Sucka Fool founder and 2007 league commissioner, Marcus Ginther, joined together 6 guys from Portland Oregon to play a casual and fun game of rotisserie baseball. What Marcus didn’t know is that we would soon spend hours every day talking- mostly arguing- about baseball and our fictional fantasy teams. We have taken baseball trips together, we have annual winter meetings, and our annual draft day has been said to be “the best day of the year.” (Though it was later said, “Don’t tell my wife that it’s not our anniversary or the birth of our son.”) And while we have a better understanding of how each of us operates a baseball “team,” we still are dumbfounded by the stupid shit that goes on in our league. We have added one player since our beginning, and head into our 6th season with a strong vigor for the game of baseball and for what it takes to win the Sucka Fool League.
Who is the Sucka Fool League? In alphabetical order:
Aaron Masonek: Aaron is a local design specialist who is happily married to one woman, lives in the NE portion of our town, and supports the Oakland A’s. He is a talented bass player, and responds to the name “Krappah.”
Dan Esposito: Dan likes cheese and spends his days surrounded by it. He currently dates women, yet is from Queens. Thus, he cheers for the Mets. Dan is the 2003 and 2004 Sucka Fool champion.
Danny Bortfeld: Danny is a two-time bar owner in town, a talented musician, and a die hard San Francisco Giants fan. He hasn’t finished above fourth place in the Sucka Fool League, but at least he has other things going for him.
Doug Quast: Doug doesn’t do much other than watch baseball and sleep during the off season. He did recently find time to get married, and lives with his beautiful new wife and a disobedient beagle. He annoys everyone with his cheering for the Oakland A’s. Oh, and he’s the 2002 and 2005 Sucka Fool champion.
Jeremy Dietz: Jeremy is happily married to an Atlanta Braves fan and enjoys introducing his toddler nephew to the life long pain of cheering for the Seattle Mariners. Jeremy might beat Krappah in the battle of the bass players (though Krappah would win by being an A’s fan.) Jeremy is the 2006 Sucka Fool Champion.
Ken Philips: Ken spends his days in a clean room at a major computer company, and spends his nights in a equally clean house in the Felony Flats section of our fine city. Ken is really intelligent, yet Ken cheers for the Mets.
Marcus Ginther: Marcus is a local bar owner who lives with his Scorpio wife and his toddler son. He likes young players with hard bodies, and has considered drafting his son in our leagues minor league draft. Marcus enjoys tequila, and likes to “get fired up.”

I’ve never lived in Queens. You’re a Queen for saying that.

You guys taking rookies? I’m a Portland-area male, 29, fanatic about baseball, though I don’t hold an affinity for any one team (I grew up in Colorado, it’s a wonder I became a baseball fan at all watching the horrendous Rockies).
About me: Single, work for Coca-Cola, do freelance writing (have a journalism degree).

Matt,
I have not talked to any of the other guys, but I thought I would respond first to let you know that I have seen your post. I think we may be a little hesitant on new guys right now based on a horrendous experience with a new guy last year who almost single handedly ruined our rotisserie style league by not paying attention to his team and getting “1″s in almost every category.
You certainly sound like a cool dude, and I must admit I have a soft spot in my heart for The Rockies (who, if they ever got some mile high pitching, could win the frickin’ World Series with their unbelievable batting line-up.) I’ll talk to the other guys and see what they say, but I think we may want a year back to normal and then bring on the rookies in ‘08.
Thanks for posting!
Aaron

So guys, what do you think? Did I pass the “interview”? Can I join as an expansion team? Remember, I’ll only draft free agents and minor leaguers.
Thanks,
Matt
