Who’s hot in the Sucka Fool League:

-!yo la tengo! outfielder Adam Dunn rode the !yo la tengo! pine this weekend while going 7 for 11 with 4 home runs, 6 RBIs, 5 runs, a double, and only 2 Ks. According to !yo la tengo! manager Dan, “Adam Dunn is worthless to me until he hits triples.”

-!yo la tengo! relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton, pitched 4 innings of perfect baseball this past week, striking out 9 in addition to eating Reggie Willits.

-Mind the Gap CF, Ichiro Suzuki, gave Seattle Mariner hitters plenty of opportunities to strand base runners this week. Ichiro went 16 for 31 (.516 AVG) this week with 2 BB, yet managed to cross the plate a mere 3 times.

-The White Shoes surged into 4th place riding the strong ample back of third baseman Alex Rodriguez. A-rod hit .429 for the week with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 9 runs.

- Carlos Zambrano of the open stance is suddenly pitching lights out after beating up his catcher. In his last two starts, Zambrano has gone 17 innings, allowing only one earned run (a solo home run to Russell Branyon in a 1-0 loss) on 5 hits, 6 walks, and 14 Ks.

-The open stance team member Mark Teahen, who has 16 career triples, hit three triples this week. All three triples came in romps against cross state rival St. Louis.

- los marauders pitching has been insane the last week. los marauders collected 8 wins last week, with 4 starters going 8 or more innings in their starts, (including Justin Verlander’s no-hit gem against Milwaukee.)

Who’s NOT hot:

-Several Sucka fool hitters had a hard time making contact with the baseball this week. Andruw Jones hit .083 with 10 ks to 0 BB; Carl Crawford hit .185 with 10 ks and 1 BB; and the AL pitchers figured out Houston OF Hunter Pence, who K’d 10 times last week to 0 walks (though did hit 2 triples in the pinball game that is Minute Maid Park.)

-In crappy pitching performances of the week, White Shoes starter Rich Hill led the way. In his shortest outing of his career, Hill threw 52 pitches in 3 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 5 hits, including three San Diego home runs. The open stance starters, Josh Beckett and Barry Zito, also both shit the bed this week.

Oooh, that Snell…

Posted by Doug Quast

Pittsburgh Pirates and The White Shoes starting pitcher, Ian Snell, will not make his scheduled start Monday night against the Seattle Mariners.  According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Snell burned his thumb and index finger while making a chicken caesar salad in his kitchen this weekend.

“I’m all right, but the salad wasn’t too good,” said an irritated Snell.

Snell, 6-4 on the year, has given up three earned runs in his last 24 innings pitched.

The life of a backup catcher
